Campbell River (2-5 July 2019)
Arrived at Discovery Harbour Marina in Campbell River to re-provision and prepare for the arrival of our daughter, Heather, her husband and two grandsons.
We rented a car so that we could pick our visitors up from Comox airport and do a Costco shop in neighboring Courtney.
Campbell River is a great place to re-provision before entering Desolation Sound. At the end of the docks, there is a large shopping center, offering a large supermarket, a chandlery, restaurants, Home Depot and Staples, just to name a few. The Great Canadian Superstore allows boaters to bring the grocery cart down to the dock for unloading and then return to the top of the ramp, where someone periodically returns them. Be sure to have a loonie ($1 coin) with you to unlock the cart.
Overlooking the marina are several restaurants. We had a fabulous dinner at the Harbour Grill, specializing in steaks and seafood. The staff were welcoming and very accommodating. Their escargots were fantastic, the best I have had in ages.
The next day, our morning started with breakfast at the Ideal Café, a hole in the wall café, rated #1 for breakfast in Campbell River. The smoked salmon eggs benedict were to die for and carried me through our busy day.
The Anderson family arrived safe and sound and just in time for a family happy hour &fresh, local sockeye salmon dinner.
The salmon was fresh from Crabby Bob's Seafood Market and was worth the challenge of getting up and down the ramp at low tide, no small feat with tides dropping almost 15 feet.
After dinner, we saw a group of first nations people paddling their canoe and singing their native songs,
