Refuge Cove, Desolation Sound

Refuge Cove 6/29/2019

This morning was an early departure from the picturesque Walsh Cove. This was to ensure that our early arrival at Refuge Cove was more likely to find space available to tie up at the dock. They do not take reservations, it is on a first come, first served basis.

Despite the wet, dismal morning, the mystical magic of the clouds lying low over the water and spreading throughout the valleys was mesmerizing.

Fortunately, our early arrival meant that we had no problem securing dock space and decided to overnight since the weather was less than desirable, and Alan had some work requiring his immediate attention and cell and internet coverage.

Refuge Cove is a rustic, whimsical, remote harbor, that must generate its own power and have all supplies shipped.

The few seasonal residents, offer a very well stocked store that supplies the cruising community with groceries, alcoholic beverages, boating, camping and fishing gear, books, and fuel, in addition to hot showers, laundry facilities and a coffee shop/bakery that serves great cheese burgers and a fantastic salmon burger. There is also a small gallery that sells beach wear, some clothing, gifts and local crafts.

Things were a little pricier here, but a small cost to incur in order have such great amenities and products available in the middle of nowhere.

Overnight dockage was $1 per foot, and complimentary dockage is available to cruisers for up to 4 hours while visiting for supplies, showers, laundry etc.

An enterprising man anchors a barge and collects and recycles your garbage for $10 a bag. A small price to pay to finally be able to dispose of your trash. A great service for the cruising community.
