Pendrell Sound

Pendrell Sound 6/25/2019

We headed up Pendrell Sound in search of the warmest waters in the area for swimming.

It was a lovely quiet run up the sound and just before the Homfray Channel intersects with Pendrell Sound, we sighted dolphins, or more correctly, porpoises. We could see them up ahead and they did not seem as social as the ones in Florida, who love to come along side and perform, or swim furiously beneath the bow. These were a little shy at first, but within minutes, we had many swimming beneath our bow.

In the crystal-clear waters, it was easy to watch them swimming with us. Once we entered Pendrell Sound, they all disappeared.
Upon reaching the head of the sound, we found it almost deserted. We were one of three boats anchored and were no where close to one an other.

This was our day for wildlife visits. There were 9 harbor seals swimming in the vicinity.

The day was warm and sunny and we opted to brave the elements and try a swim in the 71 Farenheit waters. Initially it was a shock, but within a few moments, we were enjoying the cool, refreshing crystal waters.

The serenity and remoteness was very much appreciated, as was the refreshing waters.
Happy hour was enjoyed on the bos of the boat, drinking in all this magnificent scenery.
The next morning was cloudy and threatening rain. The clouds hanging in the valleys and over the water were quite mystical and punctuated these massive forest covered mountains.

After coffee and breakfast, we upped anchor and headed out to Walsh Cove.
